Abstract:
An overview of emerging solar cell and solar array technologies for next-generation commercial and government spacecraft missions will be presented. Developments in advanced ultralight flexible thin-film photovoltaics and 30-35% efficient multijunction solar cells, along with next-generation lightweight flexible thin-film and advanced concept rigid solar arrays will be discussed. Solar array design requirements and development challenges resulting from NASA and DoD unique mission requirements will be addressed. Also to be briefly discussed are the challenges facing proliferation of terrestrial photovoltaics.
Biography:
Dr. Kitt Reinhardt is a member of the Air Force Research Laboratory Space Vehicles Directorate and is presently detailed to GSFC as assistant to the Chief Technologist, Dennis Andrucyk. Kitt most recently served as Chief of AFRL's Space Power Generation Group focused on development of next-generation solar cell and solar array technologies, but has also worked in areas of aircraft and spacecraft power electronics and microelectronics fabrication.
